Student Staff Account Requests

All UWSP student employees are required to receive and use a DIMS-created Student Staff account for all UWSP employment-related work and access, If you are a hiring manager learn more about requesting Student Staff Accounts.

Administrator Access to a Specific University Computer

If you have a business need to access a specific UWSP computer as an administrator you can request administrator privileges on that device. An example of this need is a special purpose computer with a software package that must run under an administrative account when accessing peripheral devices.

Reminder: You must be able to demonstrate a business need for this elevation.

Request Administrator Privileges on a Device.

Requests to install software are not approved through this form and will be deleted. See UWSP’s security review process for software.

Non-UWSP Presenter or Attendee Accounts

Short-term accounts can be requested for non-UWSP presenters and attendees requiring login access to UWSP computers during workshops, conferences, or presentations.

Account types:

Individual accounts (Preferred). It is strongly recommended that individual accounts be requested for each presenter/instructor and attendee requiring access to UWSP computers.

Shared accounts. Shared accounts may be requested but require additional adherence to compensating security controls. You will be made aware of these prior to request approval (for example, restricting the account’s access to a specific computer lab).

Request a Non-UWSP Presenter or Workshop Account.

Generic and Role-Specific Account Requests

Generic accounts are accounts that are not associated with any specific individual.

Generic Accounts. A generic account can be used by individuals from outside of UWSP who do not have a UWSP account but whose work affiliates them with our campus. Examples include service-providing vendors, contractors, third-party organizations, and others who may need access to a specific UWSP device or networked service to do work. If needed, a generic account may be shared by several employees of a service provider or contracting agency, or by members of a specific outside organization.

Requests for generic accounts will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Approval for a generic account will be based on business need, lack of available alternatives, and the ability to implement security controls to compensate for the absence of accountability associated with generic account usage. Policy requires that a university-appointed employee be assigned ultimate responsibility for a generic account.

Role-Specific Accounts. Role-specific accounts can be restricted to only certain department computers such as a reception area computer, and/or specific department tasks (e.g. help with managing department email). Departments are encouraged to use a role-specific account for work typically done through a student employee position so as student hires change, work done under the department's role-specific account always saves to department file storage and emails are always sent and received through the department account.

Account for Individuals Without University Appointments

Third-Party accounts are extended duration, single-person accounts for individuals who do not have a university appointment but require access to UWSP computers and/or other network resources due to a contract, affiliation, volunteer agreement, or other institutional or federative arrangement.

Examples of individuals who may need a third-party account include contractors, visiting lecturers, students from other institutions, UW System employees, and volunteers.

To request a third-party account:

  1. First - complete the account request in DIMS to begin the provisioning process (access DIMS here), then,

  2. Second - complete the Third-Party Account Request form to obtain the necessary approvals.

UWSP Account Access to Additional Systems

If you need access to additional systems for your UWSP work you can request an expansion of entitlements for your existing UWSP account. For example, you may need access to a specific SharePoint group or additional modules in AccessPoint for your work.

Expansion of entitlements requests are sent to the system administrators and approvers responsible for those systems. You will receive an email notification when the approval is complete.
