How do I Report an Email as Junk or Phishing?

Introduction:

Occasionally a junk or phishing email gets through Microsoft Defender's spam filters and shows up in your Inbox.  If you suspect an email found in your Inbox is junk, please use Microsoft's Report button to report the email   .

Email suspected as phishing should also immediately be forwarded to UWSP's Information Security Department at phishing@uwsp.edu.  Please forward suspected Phishing emails as attachments.

Report Junk Email in the Outlook Desktop or Web App

To access the Report button:

  • In an open email the Report button is on the Message tab.
  • If you select an email in your email list the Report button is on the Home tab.

To report an email as Junk or Phishing:

  • Click the Report button to report the suspicious email as Phishing.
  • Click the down-arrow on the button's right to choose between reporting as Junk or Phishing.
