How Do I Set Up a VPN Connection on my PC?

VPN stands for Virtual Private Networking. A VPN allows for a secure remote connection to UWSP network resources. For example, off-campus access to restricted databases and systems should be accessed through a VPN connection.

Set Up a VPN Connection in Windows

  1. Search for VPN with the search tool on the taskbar.

     
  2. Click Add VPN.
    Click add vpn in VPN settings
     
  3. Change the following values in the pop-up box:
    • VPN provider: Windows (built-in)
    • Connection name: UWSP VPN
    • Server name or address: vpn.uwsp.edu

  4. Click Save.
     
  5. Click the drown-down button and select Advanced options.

  6. Click Edit in the More VPN properties box.

  7. Click the Networking tab and select Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) > Properties.

  8. Click Advanced.

     
  9. Uncheck Use default gateway on remote network.



     If using a personal computer (non-UWSP device), select the DNS tab. In the DNS suffix for this connection box type uwsp.edu. Click OK > OK to return to the UWSP VPN Properties box.

  10. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > Properties.

     
  11. Click Advanced > IP Settings tab > uncheck Use default gateway on remote network > click OK until the UWSP VPN settings are closed.

You have now successfully set up your UWSP VPN!

 

To start a UWSP VPN connection

  1. Search for VPN with the search tool in the taskbar and open VPN Settings.
     
  2. Click Connect in the UWSP VPN box.

     
  3. Log in with your UWSP email and password > click OK. Approve the MFA request when prompted.

     

You should now be connected to your UWSP VPN!
