Most account lockouts are due to an old password still stored in one or more devices or applications after your password has been changed. While you can contact the IT Service Desk to have your account unlocked or wait 30-minutes for it to automatically unlock, your account may continue to lock if your old password is not updated in all cached locations.
Before following the troubleshooting steps below, you may want to test your password to verify that you are entering your current, correct password.
If you don't know your current password see other reasons why your account may be locked.
Troubleshooting a Locked Account
- Turn off all of your personal devices such as your laptop, mobile phone, tablet, etc.
- Contact the IT Service Desk and ask them to unlock your account - or - wait 30 minutes for your account to unlock on its own.
- One-by-one, turn on each personal device then update your password in:
- Your wi-fi connections to UWSPWireless/Eduroam.
- All email mobile apps where you receive UWSP email.
- Your UWSP-related mobile apps such as Office 365, OneDrive, Teams, Zoom, your MobilityPrint app or other printing app, etc.
- If you are signed into a UWSP computer, sign out, then sign back in with your new password.
UWSP-Owned Mac Computers
- Restart the Mac computer.
- Click Yes to the prompt, “Should we update the keychain password?”
NOTE: Passwords changed off-campus will prompt when back on the UWSP network.
If you are still experiencing account lockouts:

Test to make sure that a cached password was not overlooked.
Turn off all mobile devices again. Then turn only one device on and wait 30-60 minutes. If your account continues to lock, check to see if a cached password was missed on that device. Repeat these steps turning on one device at a time until the device and old password that is locking your account is found and updated.

Mac Mail application users: Ensure your email account is updated to your new password to prevent lockouts. This application runs in the background and retains your old password until updated.
