Use the Cisco Secure Client VPN on a UWSP Computer

Summary

When working from home on a UWSP computer, employees must connect through the Cisco Secure Client VPN when accessing UWSP network resources.

Body

The Cisco Secure Client VPN is automatically installed on most UWSP managed computers.  If you are working off-campus you will need to run the Client then connect to it to access UWSP secure resources. You do not need to use the Cisco Secure Client if you are already on the UWSP network.

If you find that the Cisco Secure Client is not installed, you must first install the client from the Windows Software Center (PC) or Self Service for Macs, then run and connect to the Client.

How to run and connect to the installed Cisco Secure Client:

Windows - Run and Connect to the Client

After the Client is run it remains connected unless your computer restarts, or you sign out and back in. If you find you are unable to access your secure network resources, repeat the steps below to run and re-connect the Client.

  1. In Windows Search, type, Cisco.
  2. Select Cisco Secure Client app from the open menu. This runs the app and adds the Client icon to your Taskbar.

You now need to connect to the Client to access your secure UWSP network resources.

  1. At the bottom-right on the Windows Taskbar, click Show Hidden Icons (the Caret symbol: ^ ) and select the round Cisco Secure Client icon.

You can now access your secure UWSP network resources.

After the Client is run it remains connected unless your computer restarts, or you sign out and back in. If you find you are unable to access your secure network resources, repeat these steps to run and re-connect the Client.

Troubleshooting:  If the Cisco Secure Client is connected and you are still unable to access UWSP secure network resources, please submit an IT workorder.
