What is the Difference Between a Shared Mailbox and Delegate Access?

Body

A Shared mailbox is an additional mailbox where designated staff can share in the work of managing an area's email. Set the email address in From to the shared mailbox address so that your department correspondence, including Sent Items, are handled through the shared mailbox.  Learn more about the benefits of shared mailboxes and how to request one for your area.

Delegate access is typically given to a personal calendar so the delegate can send and accept/decline meeting requests "on behalf of" the calendar's owner.  For example, an administrative assistant may be given delegate access to help manage and send "on behalf of" their department manager's calendar for appointment scheduling. To maintain secure and confidential communications, delegate access over email is not recommended.
