To remotely connect from your home computer to your UWSP Windows computer you need your UWSP computer name.

To connect to your work computer with Remote Desktop your computer must be turned on when you leave campus with power settings set to not sleep.

Remotely Connect From Your Windows PC

Multifactor Authentication is required for all remote connections.

If you need to authenticate using verification codes from your MFA hardware token you must install and use the intermediary app, Big-IP Edge Client, on your home Windows PC to complete the authentication. 

Remotely Connect to Your UWSP Windows Computer 

IMPORTANT: If you have not yet configured your home Windows PC to use Remote Desktop, first do this one-time set up.

To Connect:

  1. From your home Windows PC Search type Remote Desktop and select Remote Desktop Connection.
  2. In the Remot​e Desktop Connection box, make sure that your work computer name is selected.
  3. Click Connect and sign in with your UWSP account.

 

Minimize/Close Your Remote Desktop Session

A tab displays at the top of your remote session window letting you know your remote session is open.

On the right of this tab:

  • Click the underscore "_" to minimize your remote session and access your home computer's desktop.
  • Click the "x" to disconnect and sign out of your Remote Desktop session.

 

One-Time Setup on Your Home Windows Computer

  1. In Windows Search box type Remote Desktop.
  2. Select Remote Desktop Connection from the search results.
  3. In the Remot​e Desktop Connection box, enter your UWSP computer name followed by ".uwsp.edu" (e.g. spointer@uwsp.edu).
  4. Select Show Options.
  5. Select the Advanced tab.
  6. Click the Settings... button.
  7. Update the following Settings:
    1. Select Use these RD Gateway server settings.
    2. For Server name enter: remotedesktop.uwsp.edu.
    3. Check Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses.
    4. Check Use my RD Gateway credentials for the remote computer.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Connect for the Remote Desktop Connection.
  10. Sign in with your UWSP account and click OK.
  11. Click Yes if this notice displays: "The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to connect anyway?"
  12. Check the box:  Don't ask me again for connections to this computer.
