Zoom's Waiting Room is enabled by default for all Zoom meetings. The Waiting Room allows meeting Hosts and Co-Hosts to review participant names prior to admitting them to the meeting or event. When managing larger meetings the use of a Co-Host is strongly encouraged. IT recommends that you not disable the Waiting Room and meeting Passcode unless you deem necessary as they are your first line of defense to potential zoombombing.
Please see Zoom's excellent support documentation for Using Waiting Rooms.
Additional Tip - Move Someone in Your Zoom Meeting Back to the Waiting Room
By default, completely removing someone from a live Zoom session prevents them from rejoining the same meeting using the same UWSP account or email address. This is especially important if the removed person should be allowed to rejoin the same scheduled meeting at a later date, such as for scheduled recurring online office hours.
Instead of completely removing someone, move them back to the meeting's Waiting Room so they can rejoin when needed.
To move someone back to the Waiting Room:
- Click Participants at the bottom of the Zoom screen.
- Move your cursor over the participant's name then click More >.
- Select Put in Waiting Room.
