When Are Files Saved Outside of My OneDrive Deleted?

Depending on the purpose of a UWSP computer and where files are saved, files saved to the computer outside of your OneDrive could be deleted in 8 days.

Best Practices to Protect Your Files

  •  Always save your personal UWSP work files to your OneDrive and not to the local device.
  • If you save files to the local Windows Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folders, enable Known Folder Move (KFM) on each computer that you use to back up these additional folders to your OneDrive.

How to Know if Your Locally Saved Files Are at Risk of Being Deleted

Files not backed up by KFM or are saved elsewhere to the local computer (instead of your OneDrive) will not be deleted if:

  • They are stored on one of the following types of computers and you sign into the computer at least once every 8 days.
    • IT computer classrooms and IT homework labs.
    • Computers connected to AV systems in conf rooms and classrooms.
    • Computers in many department computer classrooms.

  • The files are saved locally on your assigned, dedicated computer or certain other shared computers.

Troubleshooting

If you realize that you have saved a file locally on a shared computer you should find a time as soon as possible to sign back into the same computer and move your locally saved files to your OneDrive.

Best Practice

Always save your personal UWSP work files to your OneDrive and not to the local device.
