UWSP Windows PC Power Settings For Remote Desktop Access

Before using Remote Desktop to sign in to your office Windows PC computer from off campus, change the following settings on your office computer to ensure the computer is awake when you attempt to sign in and work.

Change These Power Settings on Your UWSP Computer

⇒ Make sure that your work computer or laptop is plugged in (not running on battery).

Power Settings Changes for Windows 11 Computers

  1. In your Windows Search, search for, Power Settings.
  2. Select Power, Sleep, and Battery Settings.
  3. At the right select Screen and sleep.
  4. Set, "When plugged in, put my device to sleep after" to Never.
     

Additional Steps For Windows Laptops

  1. In your Windows Search, type Lid and select Change what closing the lid does from the search list.
  2. Under the Plugged in column, change When I close the Lid to Do nothing. 
  3. Under the On Battery column, change When I close the Lid to Sleep. This prevents the battery from draining when not in use.
  4. Click Save changes.
