Student Computer Repair Services

The IT Service Desk offers limited computer repair services to UWSP students on a first-come-first-served basis. Please see the following section for more information.  

At this time personal computer repair services are not available to faculty and staff. For assistance with the installation, setup, and configuration of UWSP software, hardware, and related IT-services, please contact the Service Desk.

Information

The Service Desk offers limited student computer repair services including:

  • Virus and malware removal
  • System rebuilds
  • Data recovery
  • Data migration
  • Software installations
  • System Upgrades
  • Some hardware issues (out-of-warranty computers)

Please contact the Service Desk to schedule an appointment if you need assistance with your device.

Customers who bring their computers to the Service Desk for repair will be assisted for up to 15 minutes where we will attempt to troubleshoot any issues. Issues that take more than 15 minutes must be checked-in to receive further service.

Technicians have the authority to determine if an issue will exceed the 15 minute service threshold. In these cases, the customer may be asked to check in their device immediately.

To ensure timely turnover of Student Computer Repair, the IT Service Desk limits the number of checked-in devices to 10 at a time. If this limit is reached, we may ask you to bring your device in at a later time. You may call or stop in to ask if we are able to accept new repair requests during our business hours. Wait times tend to be longer at the beginning and end of each semester due to increased Service Desk traffic. 

The Service Desk reserves the right to deny repair services to any device, at any time, for any reason.

Pricing

Repair service fees are included in student housing fees for students residing in the Stevens Point residence halls. 

Students residing off-campus will be assessed a repair service fee of $60.00 for each instance. A $25.00 storage fee will be applied if computers are not picked up within two weeks of the first notification that a device is complete and ready for pickup (applies to all students). Fees are applied directly to student billing accounts.
