How Do I Connect to UWPSWIRELESS on a Windows PC?

UWSP students, faculty, and staff should connect to the secure wireless network UWSPWIRELESS when using Wi-Fi on campus.

UWSPWIRELESS is available in all academic and administrative buildings, residence halls, and CWES and Treehaven lodges and lounge areas. This network is based on the 802.1x specification for secure user authentication, and WPA/WPA2 encryption.

 

How to Configure UWSPWIRELESS Network Settings

  1. Search for the Control Panel from the taskbar search.

     
  2. Select Network and Internet.

     
  3. Select Network and Sharing Center.

     
  4. Click Set up a new connection or network.

     
  5. Select Manually connect a wireless network > click Next.

     
  6. Enter the following information then click Next:
    • Network name: UWSPWIRELESS
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption type: AES

       
  7. Click Change connection settings.

     
  8. Select the Security tab > under Choose a network authentication method select Microsoft: Protected (PEAP).

     
  9. Click Settings.
     
  10. Uncheck the Verify the server's identity by validating the certificate box > Configure...

     
  11. Uncheck the Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any) box > click OK.

     
  12. Click Advanced Settings.

     
  13. On the 802.1x Settings tab check the Specify authentication mode and set the mode to User Authentication > click OK and close the Settings window.

 

You have now set up UWSPWIRELESS!

 

How to Connect to UWSPWIRELESS

  You must set up UWSPWIRELESS in settings before you can connect!
  1.  Left click on the Wireless icon (Globe)​​​ on the bottom right hand corner of the Task Bar to bring up the Networks menu.
     
  2. Click Available to manage your Wi-Fi connections.

     
  3. Se​​lect UWSPWIRELESS ​then click Connect.

     
  4. A promp​​​t should appear to sign in. Type your UWSP username@uwsp.edu and your UWSP password

     

You should now be connected to UWSPWIRELESS!
