Set Up the Microsoft Authenticator App (Employee)

Tags MFA account

Set up the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device and request a hardware token as soon as possible to ensure that you have a secondary authentication method available! See the Related Articles section for more information about requesting a hardware token and multi-factor authentication.

UWSP employees must use the Microsoft MFA app or their IT-assigned hardware token as a secondary authentication method.

Set Up the Microsoft Authenticator App

  1. Download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.

  2. In a computer browser, go to your Microsoft Account page. Enter your UWSP email and click Next.

  3. Sign in with your UWSP email and password.

  4. Click UPDATE INFO on the Security info box.

  5. Click Add sign-in method > Authenticator App > Add.

  6. Click Next until you arrive at the QR code page.

  7. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. If prompted, tap Accept to the Privacy information screen. Click Continue on the Help us Improve Authenticator screen.

  8. Tap the Scan a QR code  button in the lower right.

  9. Scan the QR code in your computer browser with your mobile device. Click Next.

  10. You will see a Let's try it out message in the browser displaying a number. Your mobile device will then receive a prompt from Authenticator asking Are you trying to sign in? Enter the number you see in your computer browser into the pop-up window on your mobile device and click Yes. Click Next in the computer browser.

You should now have MFA set up with Microsoft Authenticator!
