Can I Use Web Conferencing Tools Through Remote Desktop?

Attempting to use web conferencing tools through Remote Desktop is not recommended.

While it is technically possible to join Zoom or Microsoft Teams meetings inside a Remote Desktop (RDP) session, real‑time audio and video through RDP commonly results in latency, poor audio quality, choppy video, unreliable camera and microphone access, high CPU usage on the remote system, and degradation of the experience for everyone participating.

Because of these known issues, ​​​​​​ Microsoft and platform vendors strongly discourage using Remote Desktop for real‑time meetings and Information Technology does not provide support for this practice.

Do the following instead.

• Well before your web conference, make sure the web conferencing app that you will be using is available on your personal home computer.
• Make sure you are not in a Remote Desktop session when joining your web conference. If you see the Remote Desktop connection bar at the top of your screen, minimize this and access your web conferencing session through your local computer.
