How to Recognize a Phishing Email

Does an email look suspicious? Do you suspect a phishing attempt?

If You Suspect Phishing Stop and Look for Red Flags!

Look for:

  • Urgent requests for personal information or immediate action.
  • Spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Suspicious links or unexpected attachments.
  • Too-good-to-be-true job offers, especially those seeking personal assistants, or asking for personal or banking info.
  • Messages from familiar senders that seem out of character — their account may be compromised. Check email address used to send the message.

Protect Yourself By Doing the Following!

If you see anything that looks suspicious:

  • Do not click any links.
  • Do not reply to the message.
  • Do not contact any email addresses listed in it.
  • Do not copy and paste any links in to your browser Never share your password — UWSP will never ask for it via email or any form.
     

If you suspect something is suspicious or you're unsure, play it safe.
