All students at UWSP have at least two email addresses which deliver mail to a single UWSP mailbox.
Your UWSP Default Email Address
Your UWSP default email address is your UWSP username followed by "@uwsp.edu".
- For example: Stevie Pointer's username is "spoin111". His email address is "spoin111@uwsp.edu".
A UWSP student username is composed of the first letter of the first name followed by the first 4 characters of the last name followed by the last three digits of the UWSP student ID number.
This username format makes your UWSP username unique to you on our campus. The "@uwsp.edu" part of the email address is the domain where the email will be delivered.
Your UWSP default email address:
- Has the same format as your User Principle Name (or UPN) which is used to log into UWSP resources.
For example:
- Stevie Pointer's default email address is: spoin111@uwsp.edu.
- Stevie Pointer's User Principle Name (UPN) is: spoin111@uwsp.edu.
- Should be used to log into UWSP computers and resources.
- Should be used to sign up for your academic work-related internet services and listservs.
- Is what off-campus recipients see when they receive your emails.
Your Full Name Email Address
Students also have a full name address based on their name in accesSPoint. Normally the full name email address is First.M.Last@uwsp.edu or Preferred.M.Last@uwsp.edu.
- For example: Stevie Pointer's full name email address is: Stevie.A.Pointer@uwsp.edu.
Your full name email address:
- Cannot be used to log into UWSP computers and resources.
- Can be used on your resume and other professional communications.
- Should not be used to sign up for internet services or listservs.
Exceptions to the Default Username Format
Duplicate Email Usernames
If the email username is the same as another UWSP student, a student who registers second will have the number 1 inserted into their username:

Duplicate Display Names
If the first/preferred and last names are the same as another UWSP student, a student who registers second will have the number 1 added to their Full Name Email Address. Please see examples below.

Student Name Changes
Student name changes are handled automatically when a student changes their name through accesSPoint. The current account information is changed to reflect the new name and new internet addresses are added based on the new name. The old internet addresses based on the former last name are not removed, so there is no interruption in receiving email.
All email addresses for a person deliver mail to a single UWSP Mailbox. If you have changed your name, you should also replace your UWSP PointCard.
