Access Permission Types

Body

Electronic lock and Key Tender access permissions can be automated based on group or manually set for individuals with approved access requests.

Access Permission Types

Automated Permissions

Automated permissions are granted through group membership. For example, automated permissions can be set based on membership in a role or department in DIMS, StarRes, or Campus Solutions. For example:

  • All faculty and staff of a department will typically receive automatic access to the exterior doors and general support spaces of their department's building and to the common areas within the department.
  • Students living on campus will receive access to the front door of their residence hall.
  • Students enrolled in specific programs or courses may receive access to related support spaces such as electronically locked classrooms, labs, and study spaces.

Manual Permissions

Manual permissions are requested through the Electronic Lock Access Request e-form and grant specific individual access to certain locations. They are usually used when permissions should not be provided to larger groups such as an entire department or to limit access of a space to only specific individuals.
