Answering calls from vendors and other external calls can distract and consume considerable time. Instead of answering each call that comes in from outside of UWSP, send these external calls to your voicemail, then review your messages at more convenient times.
To automatically send calls from outside of UWSP to your voicemail, turn on Redirect External Phone Calls in Teams settings.
Turn on "Redirect External Phone Calls"
To turn on Redirect External Phone Calls,
- At the top-right in Teams click the ellipses, “ …” then select Settings.
- In the left Settings list click Calls.
- In the right Calls pane, move the Redirect external phone calls slider to the right to send all external phone calls to your voicemail.
Note: “External phone calls” refers to all PSTN calls. For technical reasons, PSTN calls includes on-campus courtesy phones, and all cell phones regardless of where the caller is physically located.
- Temporarily select any other setting in the left Settings list (e.g. General), then reselect the Calls setting and verify that Redirect external phone calls remains enabled.
Why is step 4 important?
There is currently a bug that may cause the Redirect external phone calls setting to not immediately show as enabled. To verify that you have enabled this setting you click a different Settings area at the left, then go back into Calls to make sure your change was remembered.
The enabled setting looks like this:

After you enable the Redirect external phone calls setting, all calls that originate from off-campus will immediately go to your voicemail. If the caller leaves a message, you will receive an email in your Outlook inbox containing the voice message recording as well as a text transcript for you to quickly review.
