Try the following if You Are Unable to Sign in With Your UWSP Account
If you think you may have forgotten your UWSP password you can attempt to reset your password by answering the security questions you set up when activating your account.
If you do reset your password, you should first turn off any other devices that may have your password cached, then after your password is changed, follow these steps to update your cached passwords.
Your UWSP account may lock if you incorrectly enter your account information too many times when attempting to sign in.
Try the following options to regain access to your account:
- Contact the IT Service Desk during their business hours and ask them to unlock your account.
- If you have the time, simply wait 30 minutes. Your account should unlock on its own.
- Reset your password. You will need to answer the security questions you set up when you activated your account. Before you reset your password, consider turning off any other devices where your password may be cached. After your password is changed, follow these steps to update your cached passwords.
UWSP passwords must be changed every two years. Expired passwords cannot be unlocked. When your password is about to expire you will begin receiving emails with instructions from the Info Tech Service Desk with the email Subject: "It is time to change the password for...".
These "change password" emails will begin 30 days before your account expiration. If your password remains unchanged additional reminders are sent 22 days and 15 days before, and finally daily during the last 7 days prior to password expiration.
How to update an expired password
Go to IT's Fix Account page and enter your UWSP username (e.g. spointer@uwsp.edu). You will be asked to answer your account security questions prior to creating your new password.
