Only use wi-fi for your gaming or streaming devices if you are unable to use a wired connection. Wired connections minimize interference from devices in neighboring rooms and provide better bandwidth for gaming and streaming media.
To connect to the wired network in your Residence Hall room plug one end of an ethernet cable into the wall jack and the other end into your network device. Ethernet cables can be purchased at most large retail stores or on-line vendors.
⇒ Streaming or gaming devices already registered with UWSPDEVICE
If you are a returning student in a UWSP Residence Hall who previously registered a streaming or gaming device on the UWSPDEVICE wireless network you must change the UWSPDEVICE password used by your device(s).
⇒ Streaming or gaming devices not yet registered with UWSPDEVICE
If you live in a UWSP Residence Hall and want to connect a gaming or streaming device that has not yet been registered with the UWSPDEVICE wireless network see the following instructions for how to register and connect your device to UWSPDEVICE wi-fi.
To Register And Connect Your Device
You must register each gaming or streaming device before it can be connected to the UWSPDEVICE wi-fi.
- Find the Mac Address on your gaming or streaming device. Make a note of it or take a quick photo to help you remember it accurately.
- Use this form to register your device.
You will need to enter the MAC address from step one in the correct format. The correct format for a MAC address is six pairs of characters separated by colons. All letters must be capitalized. An example MAC address: 00:15:BB:22:41:31.
- Watch for an email from UWSPDEVICE@uwsp.edu with one of the following in the Subject line.
- Device Registration Successful means the MAC address was entered correctly. The email contains your password to connect to the UWSPDEVICE wi-fi.
- Device Registration Rejected means the MAC address was entered incorrectly. You should review the email then resubmit the registration form with a correctly formatted MAC address.
Turn off Private Addresses if needed. Devices that use Private Addresses such as newer versions of the Apple Watch, must have "Private Address" turned off to access the network.
Do not connect your computer or mobile device to the UWSPDEVICE network. This network is monitored and computers and mobile devices regularly removed.
